Africa And EFL Training Teachers
You can help people in developing countries and the rest of the world if you decide to become a teacher of English as a foreign language or EFL teacher. Education, the economy and trade can all be advanced with your work. It is also easier for us to learn about each other’s culture when we have a common language. You can teach English as a foreign language if you have a degree and have undergone EFL training.
For an EFL teacher, Africa is fast becoming one of the most popular continents to travel to. Because of its colonial past there are hundreds if not thousands of native languages and foreign speech including German and French. English is common in those areas that were dominated by British colonialists however it remains relatively unknown in some places.
Rwanda has adopted a national strategy to begin teaching in English at its primary and secondary schools. They hope that children will be able to communicate with the rest of the worlds better when they become the next generation of politicians, teachers and business leaders.
Part of this move away from the presently spoken French has been put down to Francophobe feelings following the 1994 genocide. Both countries lay blame at each other’s doorstep and there has been a marked cooling in relations between France and Rwanda since.
The switch to English has not been given this reason by officials but national and international commentators see this as a major factor. The official line is that communication with the rest of the world will be easier with English as the common second language. This does not only apply to potential foreign trading countries like China, England and the US. Rwanda’s neighbours including Kenya, Uganda and Tanzania also speak English as their second language.
The use of English as a common worldwide language is also used in business so that international offices can communicate with each other. EFL training is a sure way to becoming a teacher of English in a foreign country.
